- The cocoa leaves have been dried for over a three to four month period and then through a labor-intensive process, they are hand rubbed to remove the chlorophyll so only the leaf's skeleton remains.
- The leaf is then stained with organic dyes. Each natural leaf will absorb dye differently, resulting in different effects of hues and shades. Once the leaf is stained, it is adhered to a heat resistant backing; similar to the backing found on any standard lamp.
- Lamp should not be placed in direct sunlight, as discoloration may occur.
- To clean, use a dry cloth or duster. Requires 2 standard light bulbs of up to 40 watts. Energy efficient bulbs may be used.
